The Smoke

The morning when I wake up, walk down the lawn, raise my hands up … and when I open my eyes, look around and then look up … that were the time when I start my day saying “Well painted!” The beauty of the light, the cold smoke filling your lawn in the morning, emptying the tiredness of yesterday from your body with a smile.

That’s something which shouldn’t be missed.

The moving craziness of the city, cars moving fast past you especially when there is water clogging, honking down every minute, don't care to give a way even for ambulances, political rallies delay your day at the office and a meter distance shot at someone's who is trying to make it to hospital, the heavy dark air of the vehicle forcibly inhaled in your body every minute you are out there.

That’s something which we don’t deserve.

Clean spaces around you and guys cleaning the floors, the pantry, the restroom, the coffee machine to keep it clean; no extra icon on desktop, totally organized files, worksheet on the wall and meetings in calendar; healthy neighbors, good friends, sensibly behaved lobbies ... but something which is not seen or told as clearly as it actually look or sound; some kind of dark fog in them … and there are more words between the lines then in the lines. Thing changing faster that the clock ticks.

That’s something which shouldn’t be there.

Some thoughts in the head, some ideas flowing through the brain, something you want to change, and something you want to contribute, something you like to add, air flowing above your head and you feel you can make something out of it.

That’s the something which got to be in a shape.

Then there is some smoke in mouth reducing some part in lung capacity, bringing something closure and filling some part of stomach … some place where is doesn’t belong, some place which doesn’t deserve it and calling someone to which it’s related.

That’s something which got to stop.

Its in different form and in different way ... the good, the bad, the ugly, the raw and the killer.

But knowing them is not the question … and knowing them is not the answer either.

SA

“You know the world is off tilt when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in th NBA is Chinese, the Swiss hold the America’s cup, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance, Germany doesn’t want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are named Bush, Dick, and Colon. Need I say more?”

Yes, that the most powerful men in America and their president is a black guy.

A few days before – America made a milestone, history breaking decision; by electing a person for president of states whose color of skin once thought to be suited only for cleaning and fencing – an object of hatred -- If you remember some lines of “I am the darker brother ...” (or watch the movie “The great debaters”). And to notice that margin wasn’t very close!

The questions which I was hearing in last few days in my home town (or you can say a new topic to discuss over the tea than India and Pakistan politics) was to find out his take on India. And I tell you there were more thoughts than Obama might have think of in his rarest dream of life time.

To start with, many a people was too happy and thinks he would be good with us (read India) and help just because in one of his election campaign he said (which may not be a part of his written speech) that he has statue of Hanuman. In fact many were just too exited by that fact. Guess still no one knows why he has.
A second – popularly voted and believed thought -- is based of his color of skin; that many thinks that he can do well with off white countries. Isn’t it another kind of racism? Thinking about someone will favor you just because he was born with the same color and you were? May be can’t fit in definition of racism but certainly biased. And remember these are the same ones who cry of every kind of racism - visible or not; exist or not; worth or not.

On the funny note, someone said – “American main Obama, America be bahar Osama
(In America – it’s Obama, outside of America – It’s Osama)

Whatever it is, and doesn’t matter how many thoughts a flowing the head, One thing is certain that American voters shows their readiness for the change and a lot maturity to vote irrespective of any color discrimination (at least the result tells that); may be there will be cases around about the racism and may be the thought about the color will never go away; but certainly it’s a good start. I hope they choose the better guy for the job. Neither too sentimental nor be discriminative.

Change won’t be easy; but together as one world ---- Yes we can.

An Eventful journey

A little background of the event from my last year trip. (to home)

Yesterday

Date : 28th Oct 2007

Journey : Bareilly to Delhi

Expected Time : 6 Hrs ( + 30 min stop time)

Start Time : 9:30 AM Bareilly

Place : approx 25 KM to Delhi.

Time : 4:30 PM

Somewhere close to Ghaziabad out pass, (Y pass they say), we came across a huge traffic jam and rather angry looked mob. Close to 10 vehicle top in the queue, mob had burned the AC vehicle (with whatever way they can or expert of) and in 2 min all the vehicles between my Bus and “The burning truth of the mob” moved out – some taking U turn; some jumped over the divider. It was just 3-4 min of unconsciousness or knowing what happed or deriving our conclusion – whatever you may call it – before we realized that it was us next to the burning vehicle (some 100 meter behind though) and to our credit we were next in the queue; at least that’s was we derived from angry crowed and the way they were moving (or should I say running with “not” just the matchsticks) towards us. So we quickly threw out our luggage and ourselves out of the bus and we (I) ran for some 200 min with it backwards – literally if I may use that word.

That was the first in my life that I realized there could be someone out there to kill you without any god damn reason. At least I experienced it that closely on that day first time. Anyway that’s not the case today. Its everyday reality now and after Jaipur, BLR, Ahmadabad and Delhi Incidents; may be few years in the line we better say “Pray to see ya tomorrow” (and do for me) before leaving for the day at work.

Anyway the end was not that damaging as we thought at moment. Police (somehow – may be even God didn’t had an idea)) managed to stop the crowd to burn down another vehicle and find a passage for us to go to Delhi Event closed, remains the experience. (via inside the city).

Today

Date : 26th Oct 2008

Journey : Bangalore to Pilibhit

Expected time : Hell had an idea. No more.

Start Time : 1:30 PM

Place : From hanging somewhere in the air to dreams.

Not that I had a similar magnitude of experience this time, but its small things that questions me or made to think. For example -- To start with, the one hour 40 min journey in the bus for the airport will feel like you are going to a different city or something for the airport. Nope your city doesn’t have one.

So the real experience started after the flight landed in Delhi. Oh no, before that let me ask me a question – do these pilots have a face? I mean why do we only hear him (after taking off and before landing)? Doesn’t it looks like you are caught up (or say paid for) in someone else territory where this guy is kind of God with his troop marching all around you; speaking in some kind of heavenly voice from time to time; try to scare you or something; may be saying like “You know I control it here”.

And what about those air hostesses; mean I don’t understand this – that lady will welcome you from the moment you step into the plane; goes through that boring demo 3 times a day; helps you out for every of your request; see you off before you step down the plane; but still never tells you her name. I mean do they like remaining anonymous or it is like they feel a need for introducing themselves!!!

Anyway so flight landed in Delhi and we gather around waiting to get our bags. Somehow I feel every guy there wants to make sure two things; first -- he is in front and second -- no one can even peek (I don’t want any one to take his bag and get his ass out before me); I wish they could have tried the same way when they were writing.

If you never been in Delhi, try to be there once; somehow to me the air smells so sweet out there ….. But not so good the way it sound! The most recent experience was while I was searching for auto I asked to security police where I can get one;

here is what happened (translated in English for readers)

Me: Hello Sir, auto kaha se milega (where can I get an auto?)

Him: Idhar koi auto na mile, prepaid taxi le le (You won’t get an auto here; take a pre paid taxi)

Me: hmm.. Idhar se texi bhi nahi milega kya (Can I get a taxi from here ?)

Him: Ek baar bola ne, idhar auto sato na mile; bapas jakar taxi lo (I told you once, you won’t get an auto here; go back and get a taxi)

Me: theek hai, abhi main auto nahi taxi ke liye pooch raha tha; khair tumko kya matlab hai (Okay, I was asking about taxi this time; anyway you don’t want to help so … )

Yeah, it doesn’t sound that well !!

Anyway I finally reached on Delhi ISBT to catch a bus for Pilibhit, and guess what ... at least 7k people on stop for the bus ... like at least 25 traveling on top of. Somehow I managed to get a seat inside an AC bus. Tell you what, its a wrong time to travel just one day before Diwali (that too without a reservation).

Rest of the journey was okay, except the bus that I took from Bareilly to Pilibhit. That could have been a worst condition bus still operating. Anyway there is old saying about UP Roadways busses --

"Horn ko chodkar sab kuch bajta hai"

(Everything makes noice except horn)

I could hear them even few hours afterwards !!! That's my journey this time.

Thanks Microsoft

Are you kidding me ??

Well, they say "People out in there can't loose their mind". You gotta have it first!

Story is after my laptop fan went for rest and turned the heat on; after 5 days, windows detected the heat and shut itself down forcibly and was not coming up with some derive load failed error (mup.sys hangs up), so after getting my hands dirty and some stinky search in the trash I found driver load and boot hang is because of excess heat. Even if it was a horrible way to notify about the heat, but it did saved the processor and more importantly the HDD (which of course has all the data). I think even this was way over than expected and their standard !!

And yeah, a bit late but Congrats to RoKumar for winning Novell Annual TT championship!! Well done !!!

Mr Maddy

Its really amazing how a person can become his own shadow and overcome that to go ahead of it even quicker than the imagination of the world's finest thinker and analyzer. What was seen in the first semi final of '08 US Open was a man chasing his shadow but what was seen in the final, was the man beating it. Night thunder first and half set of the final was the extremist madness of a genius who is just got out of his cage and hungry. Madness to the level where winners were chased down in defensive motion but returned in offensive action. Needless to say, no one had the clue except the man himself. Eyes that wide open that commentator said after a return winner - "I just hope he does that with open eyes (at least)".

And then you may have seen more emotions in this tournament alone than in the last 12 titles collectively, but the shots -- like the "overhead slice lob" that he hit in semi -- he produced in this tournament can turn anyone to show some fist and punches. But that didn't distract, he was pin point focus. When a press guy asked him whom would he prefer to play in the final, he answered -- " What would I prefer? I prefer trophy! "

And he gets it! Congrats Federer for '08 US Open title (5th consecutive) and 13th Grand slam title overall. I hope 13 will not unlucky number for you !!

"Don't even try pal, probably you are not going to win"

-- Roger Federer when asked what would he suggest if he would be the coach to his opponent (who is play against him) before the final of Masters series 07.

PS: I know, there are many tennis related post out here -- but he deserve this one.

error of error

Few .... I would call "creative" error. In fact first one is outstanding.

I am still wondering how this dialog box is created ...

Hmm .... I will ...

And how would you close videos (open -2 videos) if they are not opened ...?

Guess Microsoft has made this one for them, and I am sure they will have many more of them in there

I am sorry, what ?? .... If I click OK ?

Hmm ... I will ...

Mumbai Meri Jaan

Alright this is not the review, I just feel like saying something about this movie. The movie is based on after effects of 7/11 Mumbai serial train blast. Though characters in the movie may looks fictitious at times, its such an original, well crafted and directed script that you will like it from its first scene. Along with that its one of those few movies in recent time which has some message with it. So if you can understand the language or got a subtitle, get some time off to watch this one.

Caution: If you feel emotion is waste or if totally the other way, better if this movie ends here for you.

In case you are not yet blessed to read his work, here is one of his finest ----

WFH

I don't know if its only me, but WFH looks and sounds very similar to WTF to me. But ya, I never mistyped it that way! So I always send a mail as "Sumit is working from home" than as "A is WFH" (A is what, ...) as everyone else does.

Whatever, but if you plan to work from home (WFH) and want to work -- here are few useful tips -- That's what I did to work peacefully from home.

#1. Turn the god damn TV off.

#2. If you are bachelor, be prepared for food crisis. Otherwise make up your mind early.

#3. Get a power backup. You don't want get in vpn signing again and again.

#4. Be on a desk and chair, don't fall on your bed, with a pair of pillow below your head and blanket and light air -- there are more chances that you will loose to a nap.

#4 amendment 1: At least enable sound for email, IM messages and mobile ;-)

#5 If you have no one else to answer the bell, better keep the door locked and give the feeling that no one is at home. There are more chances that bell ring more often when you work from home.

#6 Inform (at least for courtesy) the team that you are leaving. (Otherwise M is only way to know)

#7 Work -- Remember you are working ---- ----.

For those who hate meeting in between the work and feel it breaks the flow, -- someone like me -- that's the better to work from home so you only ...... work.

n ya, in case you read the title wrong, read it again!
